Myrtle (was Granny)

"In August a post popped up on my feed about a little black and tan coloured dog that had been found at the airport by Snezana. She was an oldie, thought to be around 10 yrs old, and became known as Granny.

As soon as I saw her little face my heart was lost - she looked so sad. I contacted Snezana about her and we began a dialogue that lasted a few weeks, and I offered to foster if she could come to the UK. Fortunately Granny had a sponsor, but I sent a couple of donations to help with her ongoing treatment. Once a week I would message to ask about her and Snezana would send me photos and updates. I just couldn’t get her out of my mind.

Eventually it was time to think about Granny’s home, and Snezana approached me to ask if my offer of a foster home still stood. I jumped at the chance and, at the end of October, we collected Granny from her lovely short term foster home in Croydon. However, we’d decided that we weren’t going to foster - we wanted her to be ours!

Once settled in at our house, Granny (now named Myrtle) soon became one of the family. My other five dogs (mostly oldies, all rescues) all accepted her straight away. She’s very chilled but can be stubborn! She absolutely loves her walks, and loves human contact too. When she first arrived she didn’t make a sound, but now she’ll bark if she sees a car in the distance, or if she hears a dog barking on the TV. When she catches sight of her harness, and when we see her first thing in the morning, she starts to squeal with delight. It’s the loveliest thing to witness - it makes our hearts melt. She loves her nightly massage when she’s laying in front of the fire, and will come and sit under our legs when she wants her head rubbed.

We are so grateful to Snezana and her team for finding Myrtle, and for letting us adopt her. It’s lovely to see her enjoying life, she’s such an easy girl to look after. She’s a little bit spoilt, but I think that she deserves to be! Let’s hope that she’s with us for many years to come."
