"We lost our beloved Weimaraner, Finn, very suddenly in August and had been struggling to adjust to life without a dog. We knew we’d get another, and it would be a rescue this time, but we’d planned to wait a while as we were due to get married on 07 January (having had our May 2020 wedding cancelled due to all things COVID - just before Christmas our new date was cancelled too so we’re glad now we didn’t wait).
And then we saw a random Facebook post from Snezana asking if anyone could offer a home to this little chap.
He was called Tony then, and we both absolutely fell in love with his face. I messaged Snezana immediately and we had a long talk on Messenger, then the next day we submitted an application form to Strays without Borders. Within 24 hours we’d had a video call from Sandra to perform a virtual home check and ask us lots of questions...and suddenly he was ours. Our new dog.
He travelled over from Macedonia in mid-December and we got the call to say we could collect our boy from Buxton on Mon 14 December.
We left home at 6.30am and drove for 3 hours to be there when the kennels opened - and by 9.35am Loki was in our arms. From the first time he saw us he trusted us and let us complete his paperwork and put him into the car where he slept curled up next to me most of the way home.
He settled very quickly at home, showing us affection and trust from day one. He’s very nervous with strangers and we need to give him lots of time and help to learn that he’s safe now and nobody is going to hurt him. But we will - whatever he needs, he’ll get now as he’s part of our pack and we love him so much.
Thank you so much to everybody involved in Loki’s care to this point - especially Irena and Snezana in Macedonia - and to the entire Strays Without Borders team for their endless work in finding homes for these amazing dogs and for bringing our boy home to us. He’s a good, good boy and his life from now on will be nothing but amazing."
