"We adopted Joey (was Adie) just before Xmas last year. Actually we fostered him firstly and then couldn't bear to be parted from him.
He was reckoned to be about 10 years old but I think a combination of loving tender care, time to get to know us, a decent diet, regular exercise, will have lengthened a life which is now happy and secure.
Being an older chap, there was no chewing or nipping with puppy teeth. He soon bonded with my husband and I & he's now my loyal little shadow. Despite his age, he's enjoys long country and coastal walks and really does look like he's smiling. A very jolly boy and we look forward to enjoying his company for a long time to come.
I'm often asked if he's a puppy! No one believes he's 10. And he runs so fast now. The vet prescribed pain relief for his joints and now he loves long walks, chasing squirrels and charges over to me when I blow the whistle. He always looks happy.
Joey was groomed not long after we had him. But only a little as he wouldn't tolerate it for long. He has such a dense double coat it had small matted areas which can cause discomfort. Anyway, he was finished two weeks ago and looks so sweet. He trusts us now and that makes all the difference. We are looking forward to taking him away on holiday soon, as we have a touring caravan. My husband always buys the dogs their own sausages for the BBQ . What a feast."
