Barney (was Barton)

"We joined several groups on Facebook, as we were looking for a rescue dog rather than buying from a breeder, and that's when a post about Barney popped up. The application process was thorough but very straightforward, and everyone at Strays Without Borders were really helpful. We had an interview over the phone and a WhatsApp video chat to check the house; the volunteer Suzanne who carried this out was lovely and gave us a good insight into what to expect with a rescue pup.

Barney was absolutely brilliant from the day he arrived; it was very clear that he had been really well looked after by Snezana and her team. He has a great temperament but was quite lively when we first got him! Everyone told us it was just down to his age and, sure enough, he has now really calmed down at home. He is still full of energy when we go for walks and he loves to see other dogs; for this reason we always keep him on his lead when we're out, and will do until we've mastered his recall.

We'd definitely recommend getting a crate because it gives Barney somewhere to go when he wants his own space, and it's also somewhere safe for him to go if we have to pop out of the house without him. And don't be afraid to ask for help; throughout our application, Snezana and Suzanne made it very clear that they are always on hand to offer advice whenever we need it, which has been a huge help and really reassuring.

Every dog is different and, just like with children, they develop at different rates, so don't get too hung up on what stage your dog is at compared to others. Barney is well and truly a part of our family and we can't imagine our lives without him. We are so happy that we got a rescue pup and even better that he came from Strays Without Borders. They are a fantastic organisation and we would recommend them to anyone considering getting a dog. Thank you so much for bringing Barney into our lives"
